Interlibrary Loan Policies

-

Current students, staff, and faculty can request material not available in the library's collection through the Interlibrary Loan Program. Most requests are obtained free of charge. See below for additional information on the program.

Before requests for material can be placed, users must login for the first time and confirm their information on the ILLiad login link. Once users have registered, you can submit interlibrary loan requests, track their progress, view due dates, and request renewals for interlibrary loan materials through ILLiad.

Eligibility

Interlibrary loan services are available for current LSUS students, faculty and staff.

Limits to Requests

Interlibrary loan services are not intended to substitute for the purchase of textbooks or other course materials. Requests for loans of textbooks will not be accepted.

During peak times of the semester, we may limit the number of requests per patron that will be processed in a week.

Speed of Delivery

Delivery times vary for interlibrary loan materials.  Articles are usually delivered electronically within 1-3 business days.  Books or other materials generally take a week to 10 days, but we can't guarantee a delivery date.  We make every effort to process requests within one business day of receipt, but once a request is sent, we have little control over remote processing and shipping speeds.  Please plan ahead.

Fees

We make every effort to send requests to libraries that do not charge for loans or copies. Occasionally the library is unable to obtain an item except from an institution that charges for loans. Payment for these fees is the responsibility of the requestor. We will contact you first to be sure you are willing to pay if we cannot get an item for free.

Late fees and fees for damage or replacement of interlibrary loan materials will be assessed in accordance with the lending library's loan policy.

Hard to Get Material and Copyright Compliance

In some cases, the library cannot obtain a copy of an item due to copyright restrictions or the simple fact that all resources have been exhausted.  In these instances, patrons may wish to contact an external service such as Documents Delivered. This service is a pay-per use document delivery service that charges a fee to locate and deliver a document, obtain copyright permissions and pay any royalties due. Patrons may also contact the Copyright Clearance Center directly to obtain a copy of an item.
